Sage Green Lap Siding Painted Pale Yellow on a Brick Two-Story with a Metal Roof
This two story brick home has lap siding on the upper gables, a gray standing seam metal roof over the garage, and beige garage doors. The before photo shows the siding in a muted sage green gray that blended into the roof. In progress, ladders lean against the house, a painter works at the gable peak, and a paint sprayer sits on the lawn. A wide band of brown paper and blue tape protects the brick just under the garage eave. Another view shows the side gable already done in a soft butter yellow, with cream gold fascia and soffit trim above the brick. A rear view shows the tall brick wall with a yellow downspout and a stained deck. In the after photo, the yellow siding brightens the back of the house and contrasts with the red brick. White gutters and downspouts stand out clean against the new color. The photos were taken in Jul 2021.
How We Painted This Siding and Exterior Trim
- We washed the siding, fascia, and soffits to remove dirt, pollen, and chalky residue, then let everything dry fully before masking or painting.
- Brown paper and blue tape went on the brick below the eaves, and we covered the metal roof edges, windows, and garage doors near the work.
- Ladders were set on each side of the house so we could reach the gable peaks safely and work every section of siding from top to bottom.
- Loose caulk at corners and around trim was cut out and replaced, and any bare spots in the siding were spot primed before the finish coats.
- We sprayed the lap siding in pale yellow and back rolled it so the paint worked into each board edge, then brushed the fascia and soffit trim.
- After the paint dried, we removed the masking, touched up edges along the brick and gutters, and cleaned up the lawn and driveway.
Paint Colors Similar to This Pale Yellow Siding
These are similar colors to consider for light yellow siding and cream trim with red brick. They are not the exact paints used on this home.
Sherwin-Williams Creamy SW 7012
A soft, warm cream with a touch of yellow close to this siding, bright enough to stand out against red brick and a gray roof.
Sherwin-Williams Antique White SW 6119
A warm off white that suits fascia and soffits next to yellow siding, keeping the trim lighter than the walls.
Sherwin-Williams Alabaster SW 7008
A gentle white option for trim or garage doors if you want a cleaner contrast with pale yellow siding and brick.
Questions About Painting Siding on a Brick Home
Can you paint siding without painting the brick?
Yes. Many brick homes have siding only on gables or upper walls, and that siding can be painted on its own. Painters mask the brick with paper and tape where the two meet. This lets you change the look of the house while leaving the brick in its natural color.
Is spraying or brushing better for exterior siding?
Both work well when done right. Spraying covers large areas of siding quickly and evenly. Many painters back roll after spraying to push paint into the texture and board edges. Brushing is still used for trim, corners, and spots where overspray would be a problem.
What time of year is best for exterior painting?
Mild, dry weather is best. Most exterior paints need air and surface temperatures within a set range and no rain for a period after application. Spring, summer, and early fall usually work well. Very hot afternoons and cold nights can affect how the paint dries and bonds.
