Commercial Building Exterior Repainted in Warm Tan with a Salmon Base Band
This commercial job covered a long, tall exterior wall with raised signage, photographed in Feb 2025. In the before photo, the beige field color had faded and dark streaks of dirt and mildew ran down from the top of the parapet across the lettering area. The salmon base band near the grass was chalky, and the bottom edge showed peeling and staining where water splashes back from the ground. In the after photo, the wall is an even, warm tan from end to end. The salmon base band is crisp and solid again, and the parapet cap and roof edge trim carry a matching salmon tone that ties the building together. The round louvered vents along the wall were painted to match, and the raised letters and logo stand out clean against the fresh field color. A boom lift sits on plywood sheets to protect the lawn while the crew worked the upper sections.
How We Repainted This Commercial Wall
- We washed the full wall to remove dirt, chalk and the dark mildew streaks, and treated stained areas so the new coating would bond to a clean surface.
- Plywood sheets went down under the boom lift to protect the lawn, and we masked the raised letters, logo and light fixtures before any spraying started.
- Panel joints and gaps around vents were checked and recaulked where the old sealant had cracked, so water would not get behind the new paint.
- Bare, chalky and peeling spots along the base band were scraped and spot primed to give the finish coats a sound surface to grip.
- The tan field color went on in two coats from the lift, working panel by panel so each section dried evenly without lap marks.
- We cut in the salmon base band and the parapet cap trim by hand for straight lines, then painted the louvered vents to match.
- After unmasking the signage, we walked the full length of the building to check coverage, touch up edges and clean up the site.
Paint Colors Similar to This Tan Commercial Exterior
These are similar shades you could consider for a building like this one, not the exact colors that were used on this commercial job.
Sherwin-Williams Balanced Beige SW 7037
A warm tan close to the finished field color. It hides dust better than lighter shades on a large wall that faces weather.
Sherwin-Williams Accessible Beige SW 7036
A slightly lighter beige for owners who want the same warm look with more brightness on a big, flat commercial wall.
Sherwin-Williams Worldly Gray SW 7043
A gray with a hint of warmth, a good choice if a business wants a cooler update while keeping dark letters easy to read.
Questions About Painting a Commercial Building Exterior
How often should a commercial building exterior be repainted?
It depends on sun, moisture and the wall material, but many commercial exteriors need fresh paint every several years. Signs it is time include fading, chalky residue on your hand, mildew streaks and peeling near the ground. Repainting before the coating fails is usually easier than waiting until bare material shows.
Can you paint around existing signs and raised letters?
Yes. Raised letters and logos are carefully masked before spraying, and the edges around them are cut in by hand. Painting around signage avoids the cost of removing and remounting it. It also keeps the layout the same so customers still recognize the building from the road.
Do mildew streaks need to be treated before painting?
They do. Painting over mildew traps it under the new coating, and it can bleed through or cause the paint to lose its grip. The wall should be washed, treated where needed, and allowed to dry fully. Then primer goes on any bare or chalky spots before the finish coats.
