Before and After Photos

Warehouse Tilt-Up Concrete Exterior, Interior Walls, Columns and Offices Painted
This large new warehouse started as bare tilt-up concrete panels, marked with lines and patch spots along a very long wall. In progress, painters work from a tall boom lift while a compressor and sprayer sit on tarps at the base. Dozens of five-gallon pails are lined up beside the lot, and the first wall is turning an even light gray. The finished exterior shows light gray upper panels, a darker gray lower band, charcoal vertical piers, small blue squares and a blue stripe across the top. Inside, the tall white walls have a deep blue band at the base, and steel columns are white with blue footings. Some columns carry red bands with large black stenciled numbers above a polished concrete floor. The office area has white walls with a blue stripe at window height and a dark baseboard along the carpet.
How We Painted This Warehouse Inside and Out
- Concrete panels were cleaned of dust, form oil and construction grime. New tilt-up walls need a clean surface, or coatings can fail to bond.
- Cracks and patch spots in the panels were filled and allowed to cure. We then primed the bare concrete with a masonry primer made for exterior walls.
- Using boom lifts, the crew sprayed and back-rolled the exterior panels in light gray, with darker gray and charcoal on the lower bands and piers.
- We taped clean lines for the blue stripes and accent squares, then brushed and rolled them so the edges stayed sharp across every panel joint.
- Inside, tall walls were sprayed white, and a deep blue band was painted at the base. Steel columns got white with blue footings, and some received red bands and stenciled numbers.
- The office walls were rolled white with a blue stripe at window height. We finished with a walkthrough to touch up any marks before the space was handed over.
Paint Colors Similar to This Warehouse Exterior and Interior
These are similar colors to consider for a commercial building with this kind of scheme. They are not the exact colors used on this warehouse.
Sherwin-Williams Crushed Ice SW 7647
A pale, cool gray close to the light upper panels. It keeps a huge concrete wall looking clean and bright in sunlight.
Sherwin-Williams Gauntlet Gray SW 7019
A strong dark gray like the lower bands and piers. It adds depth to a flat wall and hides dirt near the ground.
Benjamin Moore Newburyport Blue HC-158
A deep blue in the same direction as the stripes and interior wall base. It ties outside and inside together with one accent color.
Questions About Painting a Warehouse or Tilt-Up Building
Do tilt-up concrete walls need primer before painting?
Yes, in most cases. New concrete can have form oil, curing compound and high alkalinity that affect how paint bonds. Cleaning the panels and using a masonry primer or sealer made for concrete gives the finish a stable base. Skipping this step can lead to peeling.
How are tall warehouse walls painted?
Crews use boom lifts or scissor lifts to reach the full height. Large walls are usually sprayed and then back-rolled for even coverage. Accent bands and stripes are taped and painted separately. Planning lift paths around other trades and site traffic is a big part of a commercial job.
Why paint columns and wall bases in a warehouse?
Painted columns and wall bases make the space easier to navigate and safer. Bright colors show where columns are for forklift drivers, and numbers help with layout and storage. A darker band at the base of walls also hides scuffs from carts and equipment.
