Before and After Photos

Commercial Office Walls Painted Light Gray with Lime Green Pinstripes
This commercial office space has a drop ceiling with panel lights, tall windows, and long open walls. The before photo was taken while the space was still under construction. The concrete floor is bare, pallets and boxes sit in the room, and a laser level on a tripod projects green lines across the walls. Those lines mark where the stripes would go. The walls are already a light gray, and thin pairs of green lines run along the window wall and around a column. In the after photo, carpet is down, black rubber base trim lines the floor, and the doors are dark. The light gray walls carry sets of thin lime green pinstripes at different heights. The stripes wrap around the column and the corner, then continue down the long wall into the hallway, so the pattern reads as one continuous design. The green adds brand color and movement without covering the whole wall. The photos were taken in Aug 2018.
How We Painted the Pinstripes in This Office
- We painted the walls in light gray first, cutting in at the drop ceiling and floor, and let the base color dry fully before any striping began.
- A laser level on a tripod projected straight, level lines across each wall so every stripe stayed at the same height around columns and corners.
- We ran painters tape along both edges of each stripe, pressing the tape down firmly so the green would not bleed under the edges.
- The tape edges were sealed with a thin coat of the gray base color, which fills any gaps so the final stripe lines come out sharp.
- Two coats of lime green were brushed or rolled between the tape lines, and the tape was pulled while the paint was still slightly wet.
- We inspected each stripe for straight edges and even color, touching up any spots with a small brush before the flooring crew moved in.
Paint Colors Similar to These Office Walls
These are similar colors to consider for light gray office walls and dark trim. They are not the exact paints or stripe color used here.
Sherwin-Williams Repose Gray SW 7015
A soft light gray close to these office walls, neutral enough to let a bright brand color stripe stand out clearly.
Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray HC-170
A clean, cool gray for commercial walls that pairs well with carpet tile, drop ceilings, and dark doors.
Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black SW 6258
A true black for door frames or accent trim that matches the dark base and doors in this finished office.
Questions About Painted Stripes in a Commercial Space
How do painters get stripes perfectly straight on long walls?
A laser level is the most reliable tool. It projects a level line across the full wall, around corners, and onto columns. Painters tape along that line, seal the tape edge with the base color, and then apply the stripe color. This keeps lines straight and crisp.
Are painted stripes a good way to add brand colors to an office?
Yes. Stripes, bands, and accent walls bring in brand color without painting whole rooms in a bold shade. They work well in open offices, hallways, and lobbies. A neutral base color keeps the space calm while the stripes add energy and help guide people through the space.
When should painting happen during a commercial build out?
Base wall painting often happens after drywall and ceiling grid work but before carpet and final fixtures. Detail work like stripes may follow once the base coat cures. Coordinating with the general contractor helps avoid damage to finished flooring and keeps the schedule on track.
