Brown Brick Two-Story with Tudor Style Trim Painted White Brick, White Stucco, and Black Half-Timbering
This two story home has a brick lower level, stucco gables with Tudor style half timbering, and a two car garage. The before photo shows dark brown brick, beige stucco, dark brown trim boards, dark shutters, a brown garage door, and a red front door. The darker tones made the front feel heavy under a bright sky. In the after photo, the brick and stucco are painted white, which shows off the shape of the gables and the pattern of the half timbering. The Tudor trim boards, fascia, and window trim are black, so the lines on the gables now stand out sharply against the white. The garage door and the front door are black too. Wood toned board and batten shutters add warmth next to the windows. Black coach lights frame the entry, and the green lawn and shrubs pop against the white walls. The before and after shots are taken from nearly the same spot on the driveway.
How We Painted This Brick and Stucco Exterior
- We pressure washed the brick, stucco, and trim to remove dirt, mildew, and chalky residue, then let the masonry dry fully before priming.
- Cracks in the stucco and gaps around windows, trim boards, and the garage frame were filled or caulked to keep water out of the walls.
- We masked the windows, coach lights, front steps, and roof edges with plastic and tape, and covered shrubs and the driveway near the work areas.
- The brick and stucco got a masonry primer, followed by two coats of white exterior masonry paint worked into the mortar joints and stucco texture.
- We brushed the Tudor trim boards, fascia, and window trim in black, cutting a clean line where each board meets the white stucco.
- The garage door and front door were painted black, the masking came down, and we did a final walk around the house to check every edge and corner.
Paint Colors Similar to This White and Black Tudor Exterior
These are similar colors to consider for white painted brick and black Tudor trim. Treat them as starting points, not the actual paints on this house.
Sherwin-Williams Extra White SW 7006
A clean white close to this painted brick and stucco, bright enough to make black half timbering stand out sharply.
Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black SW 6258
A true black for Tudor trim boards, fascia, and the garage door that gives the crisp lines seen on this home.
Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron 2124-10
A soft black with a hint of gray, a good choice for doors and trim if pure black feels too strong.
Questions About Painting a Tudor Style Exterior
Can brick and stucco be painted the same color?
Yes. Painting brick and stucco the same color gives the house one solid look and makes trim details stand out. The two surfaces have different textures, so they may need different prep and primer. A masonry paint that works on both helps the color look even from top to bottom.
Why paint Tudor half timbering black?
Black or very dark trim creates strong contrast against white or light stucco, which shows off the Tudor pattern. It also looks clean and current. Some homeowners choose dark brown for a softer look. The key is enough contrast between the trim and the wall color.
Does painted brick need special care?
Painted brick needs occasional washing and a fresh coat every several years, depending on sun and weather. Keep gutters working so water does not run down the wall. Trim shrubs away from the house. Small chips should be touched up so moisture does not get behind the paint.
