Lime green kitchen walls, accent walls, hallway and French doors
Lime green kitchen walls, accent walls, hallway and French doors. These are before, in-progress and after photos from the job, taken Feb 2020. This interior painting project was done by Larry Gaytos and the My Personal Painter crew. We are based in Florence, Kentucky, and our work is covered by a 2-year touch-up warranty.
Before and After Photos

Lime Green Kitchen Walls, Accent Walls, Hallway and French Doors Repainted
This whole-house interior job started with bold color in several rooms. The first photo shows a tall lime green wall in a room with a stacked stone column and a dark navy wall beside the window. White sample patches dot the green, and a painter on a telescoping ladder cuts in along the ceiling line under a fan. A china cabinet sits wrapped in plastic. In the kitchen, the lime green walls run past white cabinets, and the cabinets, counters, table and chandelier are all covered in plastic while a painter rolls the walls. An upstairs hallway with a mottled gold faux finish wall overlooks a loft, with the stair railing draped in drop cloths. A bedroom shows furniture bunched under plastic and walls already in a soft light neutral. The last photo shows a pair of white French doors with the glass masked in paper and blue tape, the frame ready for finish coats.
How We Repainted Bold Walls Across Several Rooms
- We tested sample patches of the new color right on the old walls. Seeing them over lime green and navy helps confirm the choice before full coats go on.
- Furniture, cabinets, light fixtures and railings were wrapped in plastic or drop cloths. In a whole-house job, each room gets protected before we start it.
- A telescoping ladder let us reach the tall walls safely. We cut in at the ceiling first, then rolled the walls in long, even passes.
- Strong colors like lime green and navy need a primer or extra coats to cover fully. We built up coverage until no green showed through.
- The faux finish hallway wall was cleaned and primed so its texture and mottled color would not show under the new paint.
- On the French doors, we masked the glass with paper and tape, then brushed the door faces and frame for a clean, even finish.
Paint Colors Similar to a Calm Neutral Over Lime Green
When trading lime green for a softer neutral, these similar colors are good to sample, though they are not the exact paints chosen here.
Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter HC-172
A warm greige that covers a bold wall well and suits a kitchen with white cabinets. It also works beside stacked stone like this room.
Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist OC-27
A light, soft gray for bedrooms and hallways. It is close to the calm neutral already showing on the bedroom walls in this job.
Benjamin Moore Simply White OC-117
A bright, warm white for French doors and trim. It keeps door frames looking clean against both light and dark wall colors.
Questions About Painting Over Bold Wall Colors
How many coats does it take to cover lime green or navy walls?
Bright and dark colors often need a primer plus two finish coats, or three finish coats, to cover fully. Tinted primer can help. The exact number depends on the old color, the new color and the paint. We check coverage in good light before moving on.
Can you paint over a faux finish wall?
Yes. Faux finishes often have glaze or texture, so we clean the wall, sand any ridges and use a primer that bonds to the old finish. That keeps the mottled pattern from showing through. Very heavy texture may need some skim coating first for a smooth look.
Do you paint French doors in place or take them off?
Most of the time we paint them in place. We mask the glass and hardware carefully and brush the door faces, edges and frame. Removing them is possible, but it means leaving an opening in the wall, so painting in place is usually simpler for the homeowner.
